As mentioned, it weighed 11kg and not only was it very well built, but was closer to audiophile quality than most of the cheaper direct drive units (or even cheaper belt drive units for that matter). The ORIGINAL PL-600 is comparable to the Technics SL1301 (both of which had isolators/suspension, unlike the Technics SL1200, for comparison sake). Same model numbers, yet TOTALLY different turntables. In 1979, they introduced a quartz direct drive PL600 (silver) which weighed 11kg, but then sometime in the 80s, they produced the aforementioned belt drive PL-600 (black) that is the subject of this thread.
